You're helping create a healthier, more vibrant community.

Your support of this year’s Neighbors Helping Neighbors event will directly impact Unity House, a new women’s recuperative care facility supported through a partnership between the Providence St. Jude Care for the Poor Program and the Illumination Foundation.

Built within a converted convent of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange, the program will serve vulnerable and frail women who are experiencing homelessness or at-risk of homelessness, and need a safe place to recuperate after hospitalization.

Recuperative care helps break the cycle of repeated hospitalizations of individuals experiencing homelessness by allowing them to properly heal after a hospital stay, and access housing and other supportive services to regain their footing and rebuild their lives.

The Illumination Foundation (IF) will provide 24/7 care and monitoring for these mostly senior-aged women with chronic or acute medical needs, until they are able to recover their health. Unity House will also connect these women to vital resources such as job training and counseling, with an ultimate goal to transition them to permanent housing.

As a non-profit, faith-based organization, our heritage and mission calls us to serve the entire community, especially the poor and vulnerable. It is why the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange built the hospital and it is an essential part of our ministry. The Sisters are excited about this new usage of their converted convent, and we hope that you will join them and us in bringing hope and healing to one of the most vulnerable groups in our community.
